I love the word "NO"
When someone says no to me...it means, "watch this." Tenacity and perseverance is my middle name. I've taught my children to love the word no...
When someone says NO to me...it fires me up, it excites me, my mind starts boiling with ideas, alternatives, ways around the problems...solutions!
What does NO mean to you?

Right now, usually the only person saying "NO" to me is a certain four-year-old granddaughter and it does tend to fire me up. However, at times, finding alternatives to redirect her from the "NO" syndrome that is heavily in place these days often finds me totally brain dead!
And, her baby brother probably thinks "NO" is the only word Grammy knows how to say most of the time too!
I've tried to teach my kids that NO means NO. Yeah, right. To me, NO means... we'll see about that!

forgetfulone, great point. For boys no never means no...it just means let me ask later. For girls, they seem to take a more literal message. However, age has everything to do with it! At the age one to five you smack their hands to keep them out of harm's way.
But that's NOT gonna work at 18 right my friend?? LOL... cuz I am!
And you are so right...when they older, it's let me ask her later.
What I'm talking about is...when your children are faced with disappointment or challenge...teaching them never to give up! That's a different no.
And if they challenged you...chances are good they will challenge others. So that's not a bad thing my friend!!! And when I say challenge, what I mean is...they won't GIVE UP!!!
NO, won't mean no... Your children will not be defeated in life.

For me no will always mean no but can't or shouldn't is the mighty challenge. Anyone who tells me I can't accomplish something is waving a red flag to a bull. :)
